Typography Tuesday: Movie Title Cards
Long before Kyle Cooper wowed us with his eerie titles for “Se7en” and Saul Bass made mini cinematic masterpieces out of Hitchcock title sequences, movie titles had a much less animated start. Originally influenced by show-cards for vaudeville productions, movie titles have evolved from static text frames to the elaborately animated pieces that we see in movies today.
Designer Christian Annyas has collected several images of these title screens. Starting as a way to prove he viewed a film, Annyas has amassed an impressive collection that ranges from the early days of the cinema to the present. Here are a few of his finds.
